What customers say?

“ This is such a hidden gem in Calgary! The place is surrounded by beautiful flowers and trees, and the house has a charming, classic style. We stopped by for a drink. My only observation is that when one of the waitresses served our drinks, she accidentally spilled some on the table and didn’t make any effort to clean it up. We ended up having our drinks with the spill still there. Aside from that, the staff were very friendly, and the place is definitely worth a visit. ”

“ We had a lovely last minute brunch at the Reader’s Garden Cafe. The place was very busy but service was friendly and timely. We ordered the Chicken Pot Pie and Smoked Salmon Bagel. The portions were perfect for lunch and the food came out quickly. The Pot Pie was baked fresh, very delicious and had a hint of thyme sneaking through. The Bagel was excellent and the bagel:cheese:salmon ratio was perfect served with a twist of lemon. Finally, the homemade lemonade spritzer was a delightful surprise - not too sweet but not too tart. Will be coming back for sure. ”

“ 3.5-4 overall. It's a very cute spot to have brunch/breakfast and it gets very packed. Reservations recommended or get there extra early. As quaint as the garden is and the house itself, the food itself was ok and in a smaller breakfast appropriate sizing (not bad but not standout unique either). Great service overall. The washroom is very unique and classic. There is a parking lot which you find at the base of the garden as you walk up to get to the house/restaurant . ”

“ We had a lovely experience at Readers Café! The Greek salad was fresh, crisp, and full of flavor and the veggie lasagna was absolutely delicious, perfectly baked and comforting. The cozy atmosphere and friendly service made it even better. Highly recommend this spot for a relaxing and tasty meal! ”

“ I came here for the first time in about 10 years. It’s a seasonal, hidden-gem kind of café. When searching on Google Maps, it takes you to the parking lot, but Apple Maps might guide you through the cemetery—so be careful! Don’t forget to get a parking voucher once you arrive at the café. The walk to the café is lovely, passing through cute flowers and a green forest—it feels like a little adventure. The café is located on a small hill behind the cemetery, offering a great view. The atmosphere alone is worth 100 points. As for the food… it was pretty average, but the prices are reasonable. I’d love to come back again. ”

“ What a hidden gem. A hugely historic house in a location that you would never know it is there. The ambience will amaze you. The food was good but we were there for a quick bite so we didn't really give the menu a full challenge to amaze us. The brunch menu looked great and I will be back to try it. If you go, make sure to save at least 30 min to explore the gardens as that is a huge part of the experience. You could just go and visit the gardens but why deprive yourself of the opportunity to explore a long standing landmark restaurant. I am sure you will enjoy your visit. ”

“ A beautiful hidden gem in Calgary! Reader’s Garden Café has such a cozy vibe with delicious food and drinks. I tried the bruschetta, egg salad sandwich, crepes with ice cream, and chai latte — everything was fresh and flavourful. Perfect spot for a peaceful brunch in the garden. ”
